The House of Bernarda Alba

The House of Bernarda alba is a story about sisters being frozen in time to perform perfection
for their mother.

My house of Bernarda Alba is an oil painting. The girls have been worked over endlessly to
become perfect portraits while hiding underneath is the layers upon
layers of personality scrutinized by Bernarda and society. They are the oil and the town is the
frescos.

The Catholic church controlled art and what was able to be depicted for centuries and the
wealthiest were those able to commission biblical scenes or familial portraits. The house is a
gallery of perfectly framed art by Bernarda's design and as a show of false devotion while those in town and who are more devout are the sticky mud frescos that track into
Bernarda's turpentine home.
